Connects is where you can connect with calendars your friends and family are following. All you have to do is click on their name in the Connects tab, and you gain access to their profile and which public calendars they are following. From here you can send them a message, or follow a calendar they are following.

How do you get Connects? To get Connects, you first need to create an event or calendar, and invite your friends and family to it. As soon as they accept, they become one of your Connects. Now let's say you want to see what your Connects are doing this weekend. You can do so by creating a calendar, and sending them an invite. You can give them rights to the calendar, such as to be an admin, the ability to add events, or set them to read only. Now when you add an event, all who are connected to that calendar, will be able to see the event.
